The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has formally decided to form a new government in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) after President Asif Ali Zardari approved a no-confidence motion against the current Prime Minister, Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq.

A high-level meeting was held at the Presidency in Islamabad, with Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari presiding over the first session and President Zardari leading the second. The meeting focused on the party’s political strategy and reaffirmed its decision to pursue an in-house change in AJK’s government.

According to party sources, the PPP has secured enough numbers to successfully table the no-confidence motion. Senior PPP leaders Chaudhry Yasin and Chaudhry Latif Akbar have emerged as leading contenders for the office of Prime Minister. The final decision will be announced by Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Tuesday.

The meeting also decided that before officially nominating a candidate, the PPP leadership will consult the PML-N, whose president Shehbaz Sharif has already formed a three-member committee — Ahsan Iqbal, Amir Muqam, and Rana Sanaullah — to coordinate with the PPP on political developments in AJK.

According to an official statement from the Presidency, discussions centered around AJK’s current political situation, government formation, and future strategy.

After the meeting, PPP AJK President Chaudhry Yasin confirmed that the party had “unanimously decided to form its own government” and that the new Prime Minister’s name will be announced on Tuesday.
