ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has announced its candidates for the 2026 elections to the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly, formally launching its campaign for the upcoming polls.
The list of nominees was approved by the party leadership following a series of consultations aimed at finalizing candidates for constituencies across Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Party officials said the selections were made after evaluating organizational performance, electability, and local political dynamics.
PPP leaders said the party would contest the elections on a platform focused on public welfare, institutional development, economic progress, and improved governance. They expressed confidence that the candidates would effectively represent the aspirations of the people of Azad Kashmir and strengthen the party’s position in the region.
Following the announcement, party candidates began preparations for the election campaign, with senior PPP leaders expected to address public gatherings and hold meetings with workers across various constituencies in the coming weeks.
Political observers believe the release of the candidate list marks the beginning of an intensified election campaign, with major political parties now expected to accelerate their outreach efforts ahead of polling day.
The AJK elections are anticipated to witness a competitive contest among the country’s leading political parties, with issues such as development, governance, employment, infrastructure, and public services expected to dominate the campaign.
The Election Commission is expected to issue the complete election schedule and other procedural details as preparations for the polls continue.
