The Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) has launched a dedicated Cyber Patrol Unit to monitor social media and online platforms, aiming to counter misinformation and respond quickly to public concerns related to highway policing.

According to officials, the unit has been made operational with immediate effect and will function until further notice. The initiative is designed to strengthen digital oversight, address public complaints raised online, and ensure accurate information reaches citizens in a timely manner.

PHP Additional Inspector General of Police Dr Athar Waheed formally notified all concerned officers about the establishment of the unit. He said the move reflects the growing need for law enforcement agencies to stay active and responsive in the digital space, where public feedback and misinformation spread rapidly.

The Cyber Patrol Unit will work closely with relevant wings of the department to ensure swift reporting and effective responses to online issues highlighted by the public. Officials believe this coordination will help resolve grievances faster and improve communication between citizens and the police.

Dr Waheed stressed that modern digital monitoring is essential for better public service delivery. He added that promptly addressing online concerns would not only enhance public safety but also build trust in law enforcement institutions and promote responsible online behaviour among citizens.

Authorities say the initiative marks an important step toward adapting policing methods to modern challenges in an increasingly digital society.
