A rare cloud formation, known as a lenticular cloud, was spotted over Quetta early Tuesday morning, painting the skies in vibrant hues reminiscent of a rainbow.

According to a statement shared on X by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the phenomenon was identified as a “rare lenticular cloud formation,” a spectacle seldom witnessed in the region.

A rare and mesmerizing lenticular cloud formation appeared over Quetta on Tuesday, leaving residents and skywatchers amazed by its unusual, UFO-like shape. The breathtaking phenomenon was visible for several minutes, drawing people outdoors to capture photos and videos of the cloud as it hovered motionlessly over the city’s skyline.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), lenticular clouds typically form when moist air flows over mountains, creating wave patterns that cool and condense at certain altitudes. Given Quetta’s mountainous terrain, experts say the atmospheric conditions were “just right” for the formation of this rare spectacle.

Meteorologists explained that these clouds are often mistaken for unidentified flying objects due to their smooth, lens-like structure and stationary appearance. While commonly seen in mountainous regions of Europe and North America, such formations are relatively rare in Pakistan.

Locals shared stunning images of the cloud on social media, with many calling it one of the most beautiful natural scenes witnessed in the city this year. Weather experts added that the occurrence highlights the fascinating interaction between wind, temperature, and topography — a reminder of how nature can surprise us even in familiar skies.
