Security forces neutralized four Fitna Al-Khawarij terrorists during an intelligence-based operation in South Waziristan, effectively thwarting a planned attack on a security post.

The firefight erupted late Tuesday as militants attempted to breach the perimeter of a security installation. Troops stationed at the post identified the movement early, engaged the attackers, and prevented them from breaching the facility. No casualties among the security personnel were reported during the exchange.

The operation comes as the military intensifies its push against militant hideouts in the restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Officials have identified the deceased as active members of the banned outfit, noting that they were equipped with modern weaponry and explosive devices, suggesting they were prepared for a prolonged assault.

Intelligence agencies had been tracking the movement of this specific cell for several days. The militants were reportedly involved in a string of extortion cases and targeted attacks against local tribal elders in the region over the past month. Their elimination is being viewed by local commanders as a significant blow to the group’s operational capacity in the Waziristan corridor.

The security establishment has maintained a heightened alert level across the border districts. For residents, this latest clash underscores the fragile security environment, where routine patrols often transition into high-stakes engagements with insurgents operating from rugged mountain terrain.

The military confirmed that sanitization of the area is underway to ensure no remnants of the group remain in the vicinity. With the four bodies recovered and their weapons seized, the focus now shifts to tracing their local network and identifying potential facilitators who provided logistical support for the attempted raid.
