Sindh Home Minister Zia Lanjar has ordered an immediate crackdown on the suspects involved in the recent attacks on Mir Raza and a university professor. The directive comes after a surge in violent incidents sparked outrage among civil society and academic circles.

Lanjar met with senior police officials in Karachi today, demanding a swift arrest of the culprits behind both cases. He made it clear that the provincial government wouldn’t tolerate lawlessness, particularly when it targets citizens in their homes or workplaces.

“The perpetrators will be behind bars within 48 hours,” Lanjar told reporters after the meeting. He stopped short of providing a detailed breakdown of the police’s operational strategy, but confirmed that specialized units have been tasked with tracking the suspects.

The attack on the professor triggered widespread protests across several university campuses, with faculty members demanding better security and a faster judicial response. Many believe the police have been too slow to act, allowing the suspects to slip away.

Lanjar’s office faces pressure to deliver on this promise. Previous high-profile cases in the province have often stalled after the initial headlines fade, leaving victims’ families without justice.

Police records show that initial leads in both the Mir Raza case and the professor’s assault point toward organized criminal elements rather than random street crime. Investigators are currently scrubbing CCTV footage from multiple locations to confirm the suspects’ identities.

If these arrests don’t materialize by the weekend, the Home Minister will likely face a much tougher crowd than his own political critics — the students and teachers who have already threatened to shut down academic activity across the city.

For now, the police have set up additional checkpoints near the sites of the attacks, but the real test remains whether the department can close the files before the next incident grabs the public’s attention.
