PESHAWAR: At least 10 people have lost their lives and two others were injured in the last 24 hours as the second wave of monsoon rains hits various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).

The PDMA has forecast heavy rains to continue till July 25, warning of landslides and cloudbursts in upper areas such as Swat, Upper Kohistan, Shangla, and Chitral. In response, all district administrations have been placed on high alert to deal with possible emergencies.

In Swat, the local authorities have declared a high alert after warnings of potential flooding. Deputy Commissioner Saleem Jan visited the banks of the Swat River to inspect emergency preparations. He confirmed that all departments are fully mobilized to ensure public safety.

He urged both tourists and locals to stay away from rivers and streams, especially in high risk areas like Madyan and Malam Jabba.

The district government has also announced compensation for families of children from Madyan and Malam Jabba who died during this rainfall spell.

🛑 Emergency Measures Across KP

To manage the crisis, the Tourism and Culture Department has issued a series of emergency directives:

  • All approved and pending staff holidays have been cancelled.
  • Tourist police have been deployed, and emergency helplines are active.
  • Rescue 1122 and local administrations are on alert with equipment ready for quick response.

Rescue teams are also relocating tourists to safe locations, as more downpours and natural disasters are expected in the coming days.

The authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and have assured the public that rescue and relief operations will remain active throughout the emergency period.
