KARACHI – The craze for TikTok claimed yet another life as a 22-year-old newlywed woman died from a gunshot wound during a video shoot in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar area.
According to police, the incident took place in Pahlwan Goth near Pakistan Store, where Farzana was critically injured by gunfire on Friday and later succumbed to her injuries at Jinnah Hospital on Saturday. Her body was shifted to the Chhipa morgue after medico-legal formalities.
SHO Gulistan-e-Jauhar Inspector Kashif Rabbani said that the victim’s husband, Ghulam Mustafa, has been arrested for his alleged involvement in the killing. Police recovered a 9mm pistol used in the incident, which was unlicensed and reportedly purchased from Kashmore.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the couple had married in September, and the bride’s formal send-off (rukhsati) was yet to take place. Farzana, who was a TikToker, had recently arrived in Karachi with her mother and sister from Kandhkot.
According to police, Farzana was recording a TikTok video with her husband, who was holding the pistol. She reportedly asked if the gun was loaded, to which her husband said it was not. Farzana then placed the pistol on her temple and asked her husband to pull the trigger for the video — resulting in a fatal gunshot wound.
Police have informed the victim’s mother, who is traveling from Kandhkot to Karachi. The case will be registered after her arrival.
