Islamabad: Health experts are calling for urgent action to remove the barriers that prevent millions of people from accessing timely hepatitis testing, treatment, and prevention services, warning that delayed diagnosis continues to fuel the spread of the disease.

Despite the availability of effective treatments—particularly for hepatitis C—many patients remain undiagnosed due to limited awareness, social stigma, high treatment costs, and unequal access to healthcare facilities. Public health specialists stress that expanding screening programs and improving access to affordable care are essential to reducing the burden of hepatitis.

Experts also emphasize the importance of routine testing for high-risk groups, stronger vaccination coverage against hepatitis B, safe blood transfusion practices, infection control measures, and public education campaigns to encourage early diagnosis and treatment.

They say governments, healthcare providers, and communities must work together to eliminate barriers to hepatitis care and accelerate progress toward the global goal of ending viral hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030.
