The United Arab Emirates has reportedly expelled a number of Pakistani workers amid growing diplomatic strain linked to Pakistan’s regional peace efforts.
According to reports, Pakistani workers say they were asked to leave the UAE as relations between Islamabad and Abu Dhabi faced pressure over Pakistan’s mediation role between the United States and Iran. Some reports also claimed that a large number of Pakistani nationals, many of them Shia Muslims, were detained or deported without formal charges.
The issue has raised concern among overseas Pakistani communities, as the UAE remains one of the most important destinations for Pakistani workers. Remittances from the Gulf country are a major source of financial support for families in Pakistan.
Reports said several affected workers complained of sudden deportation, blocked access to savings and lack of clear explanation from authorities. However, Pakistan and the UAE have not officially confirmed the full scale of the reported expulsions.
The development comes at a sensitive time for Pakistan’s foreign policy, as Islamabad tries to maintain close ties with Gulf states while also presenting itself as a mediator in regional conflicts.
