The case of a woman patient who died after a liver biopsy was performed instead of a lung biopsy has prompted the Healthcare Regulatory Authority to seek an explanation from PIMS Hospital.

‎The Healthcare Regulatory Authority has asked PIMS Hospital and Head of the Pulmonology Department Dr Israr to submit their response within seven days.

‎IHRA has also sought the medical record of patient Abida Parveen from PIMS Hospital and has issued a notice to the Executive Director of the hospital.

‎It is worth noting that Abida Parveen, a female patient belonging to Dadyal Azad Kashmir, was suffering from a lung disease and was admitted to the Pulmonology Department of PIMS Hospital on December 9.

‎Head of the Pulmonology Department Dr Muhammad Israr had decided to conduct a lung biopsy, however on December 16 a liver biopsy was performed at PIMS Hospital instead of a lung biopsy. The woman patient died in the hospital a few hours after the biopsy.

‎The biopsy report revealed a shocking disclosure, as doctors at PIMS Hospital had removed liver tissue instead of lung tissue.

‎After receiving the biopsy report, the heirs submitted an application to the Islamabad Healthcare Regulatory Authority and held Head of the Pulmonology Department Dr Muhammad Israr and Dr Haroon Ashraf Khan responsible for the incident.
