KARACHI: The Young Doctors Association (YDA) launched a protest in front of the administration block of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), demanding immediate release of pending salaries that have not been paid for several months.

According to YDA representatives, house officers have not received their salaries for the past four months, while postgraduate residents remain unpaid for two months. Despite several written reminders to the hospital administration, there has been no progress, triggering frustration and unrest among young doctors.

Doctors warn of service boycott if dues remain unpaid

The YDA announced that if pending salaries are not released within three days, the protest will be escalated into a boycott of outpatient departments (OPDs), wards, and operation theatre services.

The association stated that the entire responsibility for any disruption in hospital operations will rest on the administration and relevant authorities. YDA officials highlighted that the prolonged non-payment has caused severe financial and mental distress to young healthcare professionals who continue to work under challenging conditions.

Unpaid doctors face mounting challenges

The Young Doctors Association emphasized that many junior doctors are struggling to meet basic living expenses, commute costs, and educational commitments. The group called on the Sindh Health Department and JPMC management to take urgent action to restore salaries and address long-standing administrative inefficiencies affecting the country’s largest tertiary care hospital.

The YDA announced that a final decision on future action will be made after three days if the administration fails to respond to their demands.
