KARACHI — A 2.9-magnitude earthquake shook various parts of Karachi on Friday evening, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). The tremor struck at 6:01 PM, with its epicentre located right within the port city at a shallow depth of 10 kilometres. Local authorities confirmed that there were no immediate reports of casualties or property damage following the tremors. Pakistan remains highly seismically active due to its location on the boundary where the Indian tectonic plate pushes northward into the Eurasian plate, a dynamic that has historically triggered devastating events such as the 2005 Azad Kashmir earthquake and the 2021 Harnai tremor in Balochistan.
