Punjab’s “Clinics on Wheels” Bring Healthcare to Urban Slums

The Punjab government has launched the Clinics on Wheels programme to provide healthcare in urban slums.

Special vans visit crowded areas, offering free check-ups, vaccinations, antenatal and postnatal care, and ultrasound services.

There are 244 mobile clinics in Punjab, including 42 with ultrasound machines.

In Rawalpindi alone, 45 vans are operating, benefiting over half a million people.

The programme targets areas with low vaccination rates, especially for children under two, and helps diagnose diseases like hepatitis B and C.

Residents say it saves time and money by bringing healthcare to their doorstep.

Doctors report that each van treats 100–150 patients daily, boosting immunisation and controlling diseases such as polio.
