KARACHI – Sindh Police has released a detailed report highlighting a significant reduction in extortion and street crimes across Karachi during the current year. According to the comparative report presented by AIG Operations to the Inspector General (IG) of Sindh Police, a total of 118 complaints related to extortion were reported in the metropolis, of which only 44 were confirmed as genuine extortion cases and formally investigated. The remaining 74 complaints were found to be business or personal disputes.

The report further revealed that 39 out of the 44 verified extortion cases have been successfully solved, marking an 87 percent resolution rate. Law enforcement identified 78 suspects involved in these cases — 43 were arrested while 5 were killed in various police encounters.

Following a recent meeting between the IG Sindh and the trader community, police operations have intensified, resulting in the deaths of four notorious extortionists within ten days — identified as Abid Hadi, Saeed, Ghulam Qadir, and Ihtesham alias Asif Burger of the Kathiawari group.

The IG Sindh reaffirmed the police’s commitment to safeguarding business activities across the province, emphasizing that all criminal elements disrupting the economy will be eliminated without discrimination. He also lauded the trader community’s cooperation in installing CCTV cameras at commercial sites, calling it a commendable step toward improved security.

Statistical comparisons indicate that incidents of violent crime in Karachi have dropped by 52 percent — from a daily average of 2.13 cases in January 2024 to 1.06 by September 2025. Similarly, mobile snatching has fallen by 38 percent, vehicle snatching by 43 percent, and vehicle theft by 34 percent, resulting in an overall 36 percent decline in street crimes.

Furthermore, 34 kidnapping-for-ransom cases were reported this year, involving 37 victims. Police successfully recovered 35 victims, while efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining two, both linked to “honey trap” cases. A total of 46 kidnappers were arrested and two killed during police operations.

Sindh Police reaffirmed its resolve, with support from the Sindh government and business community, to maintain peace and strengthen Karachi’s economic stability through continued and effective operations against criminal networks.
