Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has launched the King Salman Gate Project, a massive multi-purpose development next to the Grand Mosque in Makkah. Covering 12 million square meters, the project will accommodate around 900,000 worshippers, feature 50,000 housing units, and offer 16,000 hotel rooms of 4 and 5-star standards.
Developed by the Public Investment Fund (PIF) through its subsidiary Rua Al Haram Al Makki Company, the initiative aims to boost religious tourism and enhance urban infrastructure in line with Vision 2030.
The plan also includes 39,000 parking spaces, 200,000 sqm of retail areas, and preservation of 19,000 sqm of heritage sites, blending Makkah’s rich cultural legacy with modern facilities. By 2036, it’s expected to create over 300,000 jobs and attract Muslim investors globally, thanks to new laws allowing property ownership in holy cities.
The King Salman Gate stands as a symbol of Saudi Arabia’s ambition to welcome 30 million pilgrims annually by 2030, combining spirituality, heritage, and world-class development.
