Karachi, October 22:
The College Education Department of Sindh has announced major academic reforms, including curriculum revision, daily library classes, and infrastructure restoration for affected colleges in the Hyderabad region. These decisions were made during a high-level meeting chaired by Secretary College Education Nadeem-ur-Rehman Memon, attended by DG Colleges Naveed Rab Siddiqui, Regional Director Mustafa Kamal, and other officials.
Principals from various Hyderabad region colleges also joined via video link. The meeting revealed that over 104,000 students are enrolled across 72 public colleges, offering programs in Intermediate, Associate, and Four-Year Degrees in subjects such as Computer Science, IT, Biology, Chemistry, Commerce, and English.
Secretary Memon directed immediate repair of 12 rain-affected colleges and emphasized the need for functional boundary walls, classrooms, and laboratories. He stressed maintaining student attendance and promoting both academic and co-curricular activities.
The meeting also discussed teacher postings, shortages, and promotions, noting that 82 promotion cases have already been submitted. Memon ordered that postings be made based on subject requirements and that acting principals be appointed through regional interviews to ensure active leadership.
He also proposed introducing IT programs in existing colleges until new IT institutions are established and instructed that an Inter-College Sports Week be held in December to encourage healthy student engagement.
Additionally, he directed the removal of encroachments from college premises with local administration support, warning that illegal occupation of educational property will not be tolerated.
Secretary Memon emphasized that daily library classes must begin in all colleges to develop reading habits and foster a strong learning culture among students. Principals were also asked to submit improvement proposals for further development of colleges in the Hyderabad region.
