ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Under-19 cricket team received a hero’s welcome from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif after their historic triumph over India to lift the ACC Men’s U19 Asia Cup 2025. In recognition of their outstanding achievement, the Prime Minister announced a cash reward of Rs 10 million for each player.

The young Green Shirts produced a dominant performance in the final, successfully defending a massive 348-run total by bowling India out for just 156 in 26.2 overs, sealing a comprehensive 191-run victory.

On Monday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif hosted a luncheon in honour of the victorious squad, where he personally congratulated the players and management. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and several federal ministers were also present at the ceremony.

Former national captain and Pakistan U19 team mentor Sarfaraz Ahmed reiterated the Prime Minister’s announcement and expressed confidence in the future of the young cricketers. He praised the team’s collective effort and highlighted key individual performances in the final.

Sarfaraz singled out Ahmed Hussain for his fighting 56 off 72 balls, while Sameer Minhas stole the spotlight with a sensational 172 off 113 deliveries, smashing 17 fours and nine sixes.

Pakistan U19 head coach Shahid Anwar also lauded the structured preparation behind the success. He revealed that a talent hunt launched on June 17 saw 70 players undergo trials, each given four matches to prove themselves before selection for the final camp. The 10-day camp in Karachi, guided by former cricketers, played a crucial role in shaping the title-winning squad.

“Our mission was clear — to win the trophy and win the hearts of cricket fans,” Anwar said, reflecting on the team’s journey.
