If you want to protect yourself from painful chronic kidney diseases, it is actually quite simple, and the secret lies in your kitchen.
A study published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal found that higher consumption of fruits and vegetables, along with lower intake of sugar and fat, reduces the risk of developing chronic kidney disease.
According to an estimate, one in every ten people worldwide suffers from chronic kidney disease, as a result of which fluids and other waste materials begin to accumulate in the body. The kidneys work like a water filter in our body.
A water filter removes substances from water that are harmful to the body, and the kidneys perform the same function.
The kidneys filter the blood, removing toxic substances and excess fluids from the body while maintaining balanced levels of potassium, sodium, and other elements.
In addition, the kidneys produce hormones that play an important role in regulating blood pressure and maintaining bone strength. In simple terms, the kidneys are extremely important.
In this new study, data from more than 179,000 individuals aged between 49 and 69 years were analyzed.
Dietary habits were collected through questionnaires, and their health was then monitored for 12 years. During this period, 4,819 individuals were diagnosed with chronic kidney disease.
The study found that higher intake of fruits, vegetables, and nuts, along with lower consumption of red meat, sugar, and fat, reduces the risk of kidney diseases.
The research also noted that excessive consumption of sugar and fat increases inflammation and oxidative stress in the body, which negatively affects kidney health.
