SHANGLA: Six children were killed and one girl was rescued alive after the roof of a mud-built house collapsed in Shangla district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, officials said.
The incident took place in the Koza Alpuri/Rahimabad area of Tehsil Alpuri, where the children were inside the house when the roof suddenly caved in. Rescue officials said seven children were trapped under the debris.
Local residents rushed to the scene first and started removing the rubble with their hands and basic tools. Rescue teams later joined the operation and pulled out six bodies. One girl was found alive and shifted for medical treatment.
Police identified the deceased children as Nazira, Samira, Rizwan, Nayab, Haya Noor and Umaira Bibi. Their ages were reported to be between 5 and 14 years. According to police, five girls and one boy were among those who lost their lives.
The tragedy has left the area in deep grief. Local reports said the children’s father, Jahan Bashar, had died some time ago, leaving the family already in a difficult situation. The house was made of mud and appeared to be in a weak condition.
In mountainous areas like Shangla, many poor families still live in old mud houses that become dangerous during rain, moisture and harsh weather. Incidents like this often raise painful questions about housing safety and the lack of support for vulnerable families.
Rescue officials said the operation had been completed. Residents have urged the authorities to provide immediate financial assistance to the affected family and ensure proper treatment for the injured girl.
