The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert regarding the increased possibility of landslides in several mountainous regions of northern Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) during the current week, citing unstable geological conditions and expected weather activity.
According to the advisory, continuous rainfall and weakening soil structure in hilly areas may trigger landslides, rockfalls, and debris flow incidents. These conditions pose a serious risk to residents living in vulnerable slopes as well as to travelers using mountainous roads and highways.
The NDMA has specifically highlighted areas with steep terrain where road connectivity could be disrupted due to blockages caused by falling rocks and land movement. Authorities have warned that such incidents may also delay emergency services and transport routes.
Citizens have been strongly advised to avoid unnecessary travel to hilly and high-risk regions. Local administrations and rescue teams have been placed on alert to respond quickly in case of any emergency situation.
The NDMA has also urged the public to stay informed through official weather updates and follow safety guidelines issued by relevant authorities. Monitoring of the situation is ongoing, and further advisories may be issued depending on weather developments.
