KARACHI — A series of separate drowning incidents across two distinct coastal and municipal locations in Karachi claimed the lives of three individuals, including two young children, on Sunday.
According to emergency rescue services, two of the fatal incidents developed along the coastline of Hawksbay Beach, while the third tragedy unfolded inland at the Korangi Crossing Canal. First responders and diving teams deployed to the disaster points managed to pull four other individuals from the water alive, though an active search grid remains underway to locate one person who is still missing.
At Hawksbay Beach, two individuals were swept away by strong currents in completely separate occurrences along the shoreline. While salvage teams successfully recovered one body from the surf, search-and-rescue workers continue to comb the coastal waters to locate the second victim.
Simultaneously, a separate tragedy occurred at the Korangi Crossing Canal where two children drowned. Specialized divers recovered the bodies of both children from the canal channel shortly after arriving on the scene.
The latest water safety incidents add to a grim year for accidental fatalities in the metropolis. Statistical reports compiled for 2026 indicate that transit hazards continue to take a heavy toll alongside municipal safety emergencies. In the first few months of 2026 alone, Karachi has recorded at least 223 fatalities and more than 2,250 injuries resulting from road traffic accidents, with a substantial percentage of those collisions blamed on heavy commercial vehicles like freight trailers and water tankers.
