Washington/Tehran: U.S. President Donald Trump has said that a proposed peace agreement between the United States and Iran is scheduled to be signed on Sunday, raising hopes for a reduction in tensions following months of conflict and diplomatic negotiations.

In a public statement, Trump expressed confidence that the agreement would mark a significant breakthrough in relations between the two countries and could pave the way for the reopening of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. He described the deal as a major step toward regional stability and long-term peace.

However, Iranian officials have disputed the proposed timeline, saying that while negotiations have made progress, the agreement is unlikely to be finalized on Sunday. Tehran indicated that a deal could be reached in the coming days but cautioned against setting premature deadlines.

Diplomatic sources say discussions have focused on extending ceasefire arrangements, reopening key maritime routes, and launching broader negotiations on security and nuclear-related issues. Mediators involved in the talks have expressed optimism but acknowledged that several details still require further discussion.

The developments have been closely watched by governments and financial markets around the world, as any agreement could help ease regional tensions and improve stability in global energy markets. Observers say the coming days will be crucial in determining whether both sides can bridge their remaining differences and move toward a formal agreement.
