The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) issued a weather advisory today, warning of light rain and gusty winds across parts of Sindh and Balochistan. The shift follows a shallow westerly wave currently entering the western regions of the country.

For residents in Karachi and surrounding coastal areas, the forecast brings a brief reprieve from persistent heat, though local authorities are bracing for the impact of sudden dust storms. Meteorological data suggests these winds could reach speeds of up to 40 kilometers per hour in exposed desert regions, potentially reducing visibility for commuters on the highways connecting the two provinces.

This weather pattern follows an unusually dry spell for this time of the year. While the expected rainfall is categorized as “light,” meteorologists emphasize that the accompanying drop in temperature will be sharp. The PMD has alerted provincial disaster management authorities to monitor infrastructure, particularly power distribution networks, which often struggle with localized wind gusts.

Farmers in northern Balochistan, currently mid-harvest, are watching the skies closely. While the moisture might benefit the soil, intense winds pose a risk to standing crops.

The system is expected to dissipate within 48 hours, leaving behind cooler nights. Despite the anticipation, the PMD notes that the precipitation will be scattered and unlikely to provide significant relief to the ongoing water scarcity issues in the region’s interior.

Expect overcast skies through Thursday morning, with the strongest winds likely hitting the coastal belt by Wednesday evening. Residents should secure loose outdoor items and prepare for temperature fluctuations before the system exits the region.
