A recent study conducted by scientists has revealed surprising facts about the positive effects of Vitamin C on brain health.
According to foreign media reports, scientists studied more than 2,000 individuals aged over 64 years for the research. The amount of Vitamin C in their blood plasma was compared with their brain MRI scans.
Researchers found that people with lower levels of Vitamin C also had a smaller volume of gray matter in their brains, indicating weaker connections within the brain’s complex network known as the Default Mode Network. This network consists of brain regions involved in functions such as autobiographical memory, attention, and concentration.
These associations remained significant even after taking into account other factors affecting brain health, including age, physical activity, and educational level.
Tomohiro Shintaku, co-author of the study from the Graduate School of Medicine at Hirosaki University, said that the findings present an interesting hypothesis that a Vitamin C rich diet may help maintain brain health and play a supportive role in preventing age-related cognitive decline in older adults.
Although the results suggest that maintaining adequate levels of Vitamin C may help keep the brain healthy with aging.
It is worth noting that the researchers have emphasized the need for further studies to confirm these findings.
