Taylor Farms has pulled select batches of iceberg lettuce from store shelves after routine testing identified the presence of *Cyclospora*—a microscopic parasite that triggers severe gastrointestinal illness.

The recall impacts specific products distributed across several states, primarily hitting retail outlets and pre-packaged salad kits. While the company has not disclosed the exact volume of affected greens, the move follows a positive test result at a regional processing facility.

*Cyclospora* isn’t your typical case of food poisoning. It causes “Cyclosporiasis,” a condition characterized by explosive diarrhea, severe stomach cramps, and persistent fatigue. Symptoms often don’t appear until a week after ingestion, making it notoriously difficult for consumers to trace the source of their illness.

Health officials are currently cross-referencing the Taylor Farms findings with recent spikes in reported cases. If you’ve purchased bagged iceberg lettuce in the last ten days, check the lot codes against the company’s official portal immediately. Don’t rely on the “best by” date alone; the lot code is the only reliable indicator of risk.

Retailers have been instructed to clear these specific units from inventory. However, the lag time between a recall notice and actual removal from the shelf can be dangerous. If you have an open package in your refrigerator, discard it.

“We are cooperating fully with health authorities to contain the issue,” a Taylor Farms spokesperson said in a brief statement, though the company declined to comment on how the contamination occurred or how many units reached consumers.

Food safety experts suggest that because *Cyclospora* is resilient, simple rinsing won’t neutralize the parasite. If you’ve consumed the affected product and are experiencing recurring abdominal distress, contact a healthcare provider rather than waiting for it to pass.

The company expects to clear the supply chain disruption within the week, but for now, the priority remains isolating the contaminated batches before they reach more dinner tables.
