More than 1,900 cases of child abuse were recorded across the country in the first half of this year, according to newly released data. The figures, compiled by a leading child rights advocacy group, reveal a disturbing trend of violence against minors that continues to outpace intervention efforts.

The report breaks down the incidents into categories of physical, sexual, and psychological abuse. Sexual abuse remains the most prevalent—and most underreported—category, accounting for over 40% of the total cases documented between January and June.

“These numbers are not just statistics; they are a systemic failure,” said a senior researcher involved in the study. “We are seeing a pattern where the home environment, once considered a sanctuary, is becoming a primary site of trauma for these children.”

The data points to a geographic concentration in urban centers, though rural areas likely show lower numbers due to a lack of reporting infrastructure rather than an actual absence of crime. In many districts, victims face significant barriers to justice, including social stigma and a lack of specialized legal support.

Despite existing legislation designed to protect minors, the enforcement gap remains wide. Police records in several provinces suggest that while thousands of complaints are filed, the conviction rate for child abuse offenders remains in the single digits. This creates a cycle where perpetrators operate with little fear of legal repercussions.

The report also highlights the role of digital exploitation. Online grooming and the distribution of illicit material involving children have surged, complicating traditional policing methods. Law enforcement agencies currently struggle to keep pace with the technical sophistication of these predators.

Advocates are now calling for a national emergency response, urging the government to move beyond policy announcements and provide tangible resources—specifically, more child-protection bureaus and mandatory training for frontline police officers.

Until the legal system prioritizes these cases through faster trials and victim-centered support, the cycle of violence is unlikely to break. For now, thousands of children remain at risk, waiting for a system that has yet to guarantee their safety.
