There has been a sudden increase in COVID-19 cases in India, and the number of patients has exceeded 5,000.

‎According to a report by a foreign news agency, the spread of a new coronavirus variant NB.1.8.1 has started in several countries. This variant has been reported in the United Kingdom, the United States, China, Thailand, and Hong Kong.

‎‎The World Health Organization has declared NB.1.8.1 a variant under monitoring.

‎‎According to the report, global experts have expressed concerns over the faster spread of the new variant. NB.1.8.1 has a greater ability to bind with human cells.

‎‎Global experts state that the symptoms of the new variant include sore throat, cough, and fever. Although the severity of the virus has not increased, the rate of transmission may be higher.

‎‎According to the data recently released by India’s Ministry of Health, 685 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in the past 24 hours, while four people have died due to the virus.

‎‎These deaths occurred in New Delhi, Kerala, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh. The situation of active cases in various states is as follows: Maharashtra 467, Delhi 375, Gujarat 265, Karnataka 234, West Bengal 205, Tamil Nadu 185, and Uttar Pradesh 117.

‎‎As of May 22, there were only 257 active cases across the country, which increased to 1,110 by May 26, and have now reached 3,400.

‎‎According to Indian media, the Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Dr. Rajiv Bahl, said, “We are keeping a close watch on the situation. For now, there is a need to remain cautious and continue monitoring.”

‎According to the Hindustan Times, the number of active cases in the country had reached nearly 3,400 by Saturday.
