KARACHI — Two gunmen on a motorcycle intercepted a family outside their home in Gulshan-e-Iqbal on Wednesday, holding the victims at gunpoint before fleeing with cash, mobile phones, and jewelry. The incident, captured in full by a high-definition CCTV camera, lasted less than 90 seconds.
The footage shows the residents standing near their front gate when the suspects pull up. The pillion rider jumps off, weapon drawn, and immediately forces the victims to surrender their belongings. One resident attempts to resist briefly, but the gunman levels the weapon at his head, forcing him to step back and hand over his gold chain.
Police investigators identified the suspects as part of a recurring street crime syndicate operating in the district. They are currently analyzing the footage to track the motorcycle’s route. Despite the clear video evidence, the suspects’ faces remain obscured by helmets and surgical masks—a tactical choice that has become standard practice for local street gangs.
This robbery follows a sharp uptick in opportunistic crime across the city. Local residents, who have been demanding increased police patrols for months, say the brazen nature of the attack confirms their fears. “We don’t even feel safe stepping out of our own gate during the day,” said a neighbor who witnessed the aftermath.
While the local station house officer (SHO) promised a swift investigation, no arrests have been made as of Thursday morning. The victims remain shaken, and the lack of a clear lead has left the neighborhood on edge.
For now, the video circulating on social media serves as a stark reminder of the city’s deteriorating security situation — and the growing gap between police promises and the reality on the street.
