A newborn baby has disappeared from a government hospital in Karachi, sparking outrage and allegations of criminal negligence against the facility’s administration. The parents, who arrived at the hospital for a routine delivery, claim their child was taken shortly after birth, while hospital authorities maintain that internal records remain inconclusive.

The father, Muhammad Aslam, told reporters the infant was healthy immediately following the delivery early Tuesday morning. He alleges that nursing staff moved the baby to a separate observation unit without clear explanation. When the family attempted to check on the child hours later, the crib was empty.

“They told us to wait outside,” Aslam said, struggling to maintain his composure. “When we finally forced our way in, the staff just looked at each other. No one could tell us where my son was.”

The hospital administration has launched an internal inquiry, though families of other patients are now questioning the facility’s security protocols. CCTV footage from the maternity ward’s hallway is currently being reviewed by local police, but early reports indicate a significant gap in the surveillance coverage near the nursery exit.

Police investigators are treating the case as a potential abduction. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) operations confirmed that staff members on duty during the night shift have been detained for questioning. Investigators are also probing whether the hospital’s electronic record-keeping system was intentionally bypassed.

This incident has amplified broader concerns regarding the state of public healthcare in the city. For many, the hospital’s inability to account for a newborn within its own walls underscores a systemic breakdown in accountability.

As the search continues, the family remains camped outside the hospital gates. They aren’t interested in administrative explanations or internal probes; they are waiting for their son. For now, the hospital’s silence is the only response the grieving parents have received.
