ISLAMABAD — The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) dismantled a sophisticated human trafficking and visa fraud ring operating out of the capital on Tuesday, arresting five suspects accused of swindling millions from job seekers.

The raid, executed by the FIA’s Anti-Human Trafficking Circle, targeted a residential compound in Islamabad’s G-series sectors. Agents seized dozens of forged passports, fake employment visas for Gulf nations, and high-end printing equipment used to manufacture counterfeit travel documents.

Investigators say the group targeted low-income laborers, promising high-paying construction jobs in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Once the victims paid the “processing fees”—often ranging between 300,000 to 500,000 PKR—the suspects would vanish, leaving behind forged documents that were flagged by airport authorities during boarding attempts.

“These operators weren’t just stealing money; they were putting lives at risk by funneling people into illegal migration routes,” said a senior FIA official involved in the operation. “We’ve been tracking their digital footprint for three months. They were using encrypted messaging apps to avoid detection, but a slip-up in a local money transfer tipped us off.”

The suspects, whose names have been withheld pending further investigation, reportedly operated as a pyramid scheme. Lower-level recruiters scouted rural areas in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, funneling commissions to the Islamabad-based ringleaders who handled the technical side of the forgery.

This bust comes as the FIA intensifies its crackdown on transnational crime syndicates following a surge in reports of human smuggling. Officials confirmed that at least 15 passports recovered from the scene were already stamped with fake visas, suggesting the group was preparing a fresh batch of victims for departure this week.

The suspects are currently being held at the FIA headquarters. Prosecutors are expected to seek physical remand tomorrow to trace the gang’s broader network, which investigators suspect reaches into the travel agency sector.

For those victims already left in the lurch, the arrests offer little immediate financial relief. As the agency sorts through the recovered digital evidence, the focus remains on identifying how many individuals have already been trafficked abroad using the gang’s forged credentials.
