The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued an alert for widespread dust storms, windstorms, and thunderstorms expected to sweep across the country between June 11 and 13. After days of blistering heat, the shift in weather promises a significant drop in temperatures for many regions.
Most districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Punjab, and Gilgit-Baltistan are in the path of this weather system. Residents in these areas can expect gusty winds and rain that should provide a much-needed reprieve from the current heatwave conditions.
The weather office confirmed that the incoming system is likely to reach upper and central parts of the country by Tuesday evening. While the rain is welcome, the PMD warned of potential damage to weak infrastructure, including solar panels, billboards, and mud houses, due to the intensity of the expected windstorms.
Farmers have been advised to take necessary precautions. Harvesting and sowing schedules may need adjustment to protect crops from the sudden onset of heavy winds and precipitation.
In the southern regions, including Sindh and parts of Balochistan, the impact will be less severe in terms of rainfall, though temperatures are expected to drop slightly as the system passes through. The PMD’s forecast suggests the heat intensity will subside significantly, though the humidity levels might climb temporarily following the rain.
Emergency services are on standby in major urban centers, including Lahore and Islamabad, where strong winds often lead to power outages and localized flooding in low-lying areas.
