KARACHI – A horrifying child abuse case has come to light in the city after the arrest of Shabbir Ahmed Tanoli, accused in what police call the biggest scandal of its kind.

According to the initial investigation report, the suspect moved from Abbottabad to Karachi in 2011 and settled in Qayyumabad B Area in 2016, where he ran a juice stall. Police said that since then he had been abusing children between the ages of 5 and 12.

Investigators revealed that Tanoli used to lure children visiting his stall with money, take them upstairs, abuse them, and record videos. During questioning, he admitted to assaulting around 100 children, with videos and photos recovered from his mobile phone and USB devices.

Police added that the suspect kept a diary and a list of nearly 70 to 75 children, along with their profiles. More investigation is underway to find out how he used the videos and images.

Meanwhile, a judicial magistrate remanded Tanoli into police custody for five days. The investigation officer told the court that more than 100 objectionable videos were found on his phone. The court asked for a progress report by September 17.

Police confirmed that four cases have been registered against the suspect at Defence Police Station on complaints from the families of five girls, including two sisters.
