Karachi can expect scattered rainfall throughout the day as the current monsoon system remains active over Sindh. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) confirmed the city’s atmosphere is currently primed for precipitation, with clouds already gathering over districts including Korangi, Landhi, and Malir.

The rain won’t be a uniform downpour. Instead, the city will likely see intermittent showers through the evening. While the intensity may vary from light to moderate, the PMD warns that even brief, sharp bursts could lead to urban flooding in low-lying areas — a recurring crisis for the city’s infrastructure.

For commuters, the timing is critical. Traffic congestion typically spikes during these events, and the combination of wet roads and poor drainage systems creates significant hazards. The city administration has reportedly placed municipal teams on standby, but residents remain skeptical given the history of stalled drainage projects.

The humidity is also expected to persist, keeping temperatures feeling higher than the recorded mercury. Despite the rain, the heat won’t break immediately. The moisture-laden winds coming off the Arabian Sea ensure the muggy conditions stay until the system clears out later this week.

This current weather pattern is part of a broader monsoon spell affecting the lower half of the province. While Karachi has seen erratic rainfall so far this season, this specific system carries enough moisture to keep the city on alert for the next 24 to 48 hours.

Keep an eye on local alerts if you’re planning to travel through the city’s major arteries, especially near the Korangi Causeway, which remains a primary concern during any significant rainfall. For now, the sky is grey, the humidity is high, and the rain is headed your way.
