Two more polio cases have been reported from the areas of Bannu and North Waziristan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, bringing the total number of cases in Pakistan this year to 3.
The laboratory of the National Institute of Health has confirmed the presence of wild poliovirus in both children. The affected include a 5 month old infant and a 2 year old girl.
Earlier this year, the first polio case was reported from Sindh’s district Sujawal.
According to the National Emergency Operations Center, a special anti-polio campaign will be carried out in selected districts of the country during the current month, with a target to administer polio drops to approximately 19 million children.
Authorities have appealed to parents to ensure their children receive polio drops so that complete eradication of this disease can be made possible.
