The family of Mir Raza Ali has formally opposed the government’s move to establish a judicial commission to probe his death, casting doubt on the impartiality of the proposed body. In a statement released late Tuesday, family representatives dismissed the commission as a “delaying tactic” rather than a genuine effort to secure justice.

The family’s refusal comes just 48 hours after the provincial administration announced the inquiry. They argue that previous commissions into similar high-profile cases have historically failed to produce accountability, serving instead to shield those in power.

“We don’t need another report gathering dust on a shelf,” a family spokesperson told reporters. “We need the footage from the site and the names of the officers on duty. A commission won’t give us that.”

Legal experts watching the case suggest the family’s skepticism is rooted in a deep-seated distrust of the current investigative framework. By rejecting the commission, the family is effectively raising the stakes for the government, shifting the focus from procedural formalities to the demand for direct, evidence-based transparency.

Government officials maintain that the commission is a necessary step to ensure a “fair and neutral” investigation. They argue that the inquiry will have the mandate to subpoena records and summon witnesses, which they claim is the only way to establish a legal chain of custody for the evidence.

However, the family remains unmoved. They have vowed to pursue a petition in the high court if the commission is not dissolved within the week. For them, the government’s push for a judicial probe isn’t a path to the truth — it’s an attempt to manage the optics of a growing public outcry.

The administration now faces a difficult choice: push forward with a commission that lacks the support of the victims’ families, or risk a protracted legal battle that could keep the details of the case in the headlines for months to come.
