PDMA Punjab Proposes Extension in Summer Vacations Due to Floods

Lahore: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has proposed extending summer vacations in schools across the province due to the ongoing flood situation and heavy monsoon rains.

According to officials, the recommendation was made to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and school staff as several districts continue to face flood risks, waterlogging, and disrupted road access. The proposal has been forwarded to the provincial government and the School Education Department for consideration.

Authorities said that persistent rainfall has increased water levels in rivers and streams, while low-lying areas in some districts remain vulnerable to flooding. The extension would help minimize travel risks and prevent disruptions caused by adverse weather conditions.

The final decision on extending the holidays will be announced by the Punjab government after reviewing the latest weather forecasts and flood conditions. Parents and educational institutions have been advised to follow official notifications and avoid relying on unverified information circulating on social media.

Meanwhile, PDMA has urged district administrations to remain on high alert and continue monitoring flood-affected areas. Rescue teams and emergency services have also been instructed to stay prepared for any further deterioration in weather conditions.
