KARACHI: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has unveiled its ambitious “Pakistan Digital Leap” initiative, marking a historic milestone in the digital transformation of the country’s higher education sector. The event, managed under HEC’s Higher Education Development Program (HEDP) in collaboration with the World Bank, promises to revolutionize academic infrastructure and learning for over 6 million students nationwide.
At the ceremony, TMC Pvt Ltd was commended for its pivotal role in digitizing 25 universities through its cutting-edge platforms, Maktab ERP-SLCS and Al-Fihri Learning Management System (LMS).
A First in Pakistan’s History
In a groundbreaking moment, HEC Chairman Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad appeared as a holographic host, symbolizing the innovative spirit driving the project. He highlighted the transformative impact of this initiative, stating:
“We have provided the much needed technological support to the universities and students of Pakistan. With these technologies, our students can now compete with the top-ranked universities in the world, while universities can lower their costs and enhance efficiency.”

The Maktab ERP-SLCS streamlines university administration, covering admissions, course registration, examinations, and student records. Meanwhile, the Al-Fihri LMS named in honor of Fatima Al-Fihri, founder of the world’s oldest operational university offers students personalized, cloud-enabled learning accessible anytime, anywhere.
Key features include:
- Cost reduction by minimizing paper use and operational expenses
- Enhanced transparency and security with HEC’s Astrolabes datacenters and Jidar Network Security framework
- Scalability and inclusion across multiple campuses
- Flexible study plans and lifelong learning support
Building a Digital Education Ecosystem
The initiative is part of HEC’s broader vision of a national digital education ecosystem, which includes:
- 7,000km of fiber connectivity
- 20,000 Wi-Fi points across 96 Higher Education Institutions (HEIs)
- Smart classroom infrastructure
With these developments, HEC aims to provide Pakistan’s students with world class educational resources, bridging the gap between tradition and modern innovation.
