Apple has acknowledged reports of inner-screen damage affecting a small number of its newly launched foldable smartphones, the iPhone Duo, and has advised affected customers to contact AppleCare for replacement devices.
The issue emerged just days after the phone began shipping on October 23, 2026. Some users shared photos and videos online showing cracks and bright lines appearing along the central hinge of the phone’s inner display. In some reported cases, the damage appeared shortly after customers began using their devices.
Apple confirmed that it was aware of the problem but did not disclose the exact number of affected phones or explain what was causing the damage. The company said customers experiencing display issues should contact AppleCare to arrange a replacement.
Repair specialists at iFixit examined the phone’s hinge mechanism using teardown footage, technical information and CT scans. Their analysis suggested that a central support component might be placing pressure on the display when the phone folds. However, this remains a possible explanation rather than a confirmed cause.
The reports have raised questions about the durability of Apple’s first foldable smartphone. Foldable devices rely on complex hinge mechanisms and flexible displays, making their design and manufacturing particularly challenging.
Despite the reports, the full scale of the problem remains unclear. Apple has not announced a general recall, and the company has not confirmed whether a design change or broader repair programme will be introduced.
Customers who notice cracks, unusual lines or other problems on their iPhone Duo’s inner display are advised to contact AppleCare for assistance.
