Federal Minister for Health Mustafa Kamal met with the Coordinator Emergency Operations Center Sindh.
During the meeting, Mustafa Kamal was briefed on polio eradication efforts in Sindh, particularly in Karachi.
Mustafa Kamal said that a special anti polio campaign is scheduled from May 11 to 24, and in selected high risk union councils of Karachi, the campaign will be for children up to 10 years of age. The progress of the campaign will be reviewed in the coming weeks.
He said that vaccination coverage should be improved in certain areas of Sindh, especially Karachi, and a dispensary is being established in Sohrab Goth where work will begin soon.
The Federal Minister for Health said that a red zone strategy is being adopted in areas where the virus is present, and training of polio workers and micro planning is being further improved, with emphasis on identifying and vaccinating missed children.
He said that local community leaders, religious scholars and social figures are being included in the campaign, with special focus on slum areas and remote rural regions.
Mustafa Kamal said that work is also underway to establish new vaccination centers and dispensaries at the urban level.
