ISLAMABAD – Senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political and Public Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, has confirmed that the coalition with Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) remains intact, dismissing all rumours of a political rift.
Speaking on Geo News’ talk show Capital Talk, Sanaullah emphasized that despite the change in party positions following the verdict on reserved seats, the alliance between the PML-N and PPP is vital to the stability of the current government.
“This coalition cannot function without both parties working together. The rumours about a split are completely baseless,” he said.
Addressing speculation that Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir might be considered for the presidency, Sanaullah clarified:
“This is false. He will retire in uniform and has no plans to take up any civilian office.”
PPP’s Position in Punjab
Meanwhile, PPP Senator Saleem Mandviwalla acknowledged internal frustrations within the party, particularly regarding Punjab. He said the PML-N-led provincial government often overlooks PPP’s concerns due to the party’s limited representation there.
“In Punjab, our strength is less, so naturally our issues aren’t given priority. That’s why our members often raise their concerns with senior leadership,” Mandviwalla stated.
However, he also pointed out signs of healthy cooperation between the two parties. He cited the example of a hospital inaugurated by the Sindh government in Punjab, which faced no opposition from the PML-N.
Rana Sanaullah stressed the importance of political maturity and mutual respect, noting:
“The Charter of Democracy itself says that no party should work towards toppling another’s government.”
He also confirmed his recent meeting with JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman was related to the upcoming Senate elections.
“We are planning a joint strategy. With support from the PPP, Maulana sb’s party, and the PML-N, we aim to win more Senate seats,” he added.
