In the Sardar Garh area of Rahim Yar Khan, 8 children have died over the past two months, while more than 50 have been affected.
According to the CEO Health, various skin diseases have been found among the deceased and affected children. The affected children were students of a local madrassa, and the illnesses spread among them from one another.
Deputy Commissioner Zaheer Anwar stated that residents of the area continued to seek treatment for their children from spiritual healers instead of government hospitals. A case is being registered on behalf of the state against the healer who treated the children.
The Deputy Commissioner further said that the Health Department has established a field camp in the affected area, where children are being vaccinated against measles and other diseases.
He also said that health department teams are conducting a door to door survey in the area to investigate how many children have died and how many have been affected so far.
