Somali pirates abandoned a hijacked UAE dhow after running short of supplies, including food and water.
According to reports, the pirates had taken control of the traditional sailing vessel, but were unable to continue holding it because of dwindling resources. They later left the dhow and fled.
Further details about the condition of the crew and the recovery of the vessel are still awaited.
The incident highlights continuing maritime security concerns near Somalia, the Gulf of Aden and the Arabian Sea, where piracy has affected international shipping in the past.
Security experts say that although international naval patrols have reduced piracy incidents, such threats have not completely disappeared. Limited supplies and increased monitoring often prevent pirates from carrying out prolonged operations
