Police investigators have formed an eight-member team to track down the killers behind the triple murder in Karachi’s Surjani Town, a case that has rattled residents and drawn sharp criticism over the city’s deteriorating law and order.

The team, led by a Superintendent of Police (SP), includes senior investigators from the District West police and representatives from the Counter-Terrorism Department. Their primary mandate: identify the motive behind the killings and secure the leads that have so far eluded local authorities.

The incident centers on the brutal slaying of three individuals in the L-1 area of Surjani Town earlier this week. The victims were found with multiple gunshot wounds, a hallmark of targeted violence that has become all too familiar for Karachi’s volatile fringes. While police initially treated the scene as a robbery gone wrong, the precision of the attack suggests a more calculated motive.

Senior officials are under pressure to produce results. With crime rates climbing across the district, families in Surjani Town are increasingly vocal about the lack of police presence on the streets. For many, this investigation isn’t just about a single crime; it’s a test of whether the police can actually hold ground against the gangs operating in the city’s outskirts.

Investigators are currently scrubbing CCTV footage from the surrounding neighborhoods and questioning witnesses who were near the crime scene. Despite these efforts, a clear suspect remains unidentified.

“We are looking at every angle, including personal vendettas and external criminal involvement,” said a senior officer involved in the probe. He spoke on the condition of anonymity, citing the sensitivity of the ongoing operation.

The formation of an eight-member team is a standard administrative response, yet it offers little comfort to those living in the area. Until the police can transition from forming committees to making arrests, the fear in Surjani Town will continue to hold sway.
