Trump Claims Israel-Iran Ceasefire After Iranian Missile Strike on US Base in Qatar

U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Iran and Israel have agreed to a “complete and total ceasefire” following a limited Iranian missile strike on a U.S. military base in Qatar. The strike was Iran’s response to U.S. airstrikes on its nuclear facilities over the weekend.

Trump made the announcement on Truth Social, saying the ceasefire would begin at midnight Tuesday Eastern Time and mark the “Official END” of the war.

However, Iranian officials offered a more cautious view. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated on X that there was no formal agreement yet, but if Israel halted its attacks by 4 a.m. Tehran time, Iran would refrain from further retaliation. His statement came minutes after that deadline passed.

Israel has not officially commented on the ceasefire claim, and while strikes continued in Tehran until about 4 a.m., no new attacks were reported afterward.

The ceasefire claim follows days of intensifying conflict. Iran launched missiles at the U.S.-operated Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar on Monday. Trump said Iran warned the U.S. ahead of time and that no casualties occurred. Qatar condemned the strike as a violation of its sovereignty.

Iran described its strike as proportional, saying it mirrored the number of U.S. bombs dropped on Iranian nuclear sites. Major General Shayeq Al Hajri of Qatar confirmed 19 missiles were launched, with all but one intercepted.

In Israel, civilians continued to shelter as Iranian missiles targeted cities including Haifa and Tel Aviv. Meanwhile, Israeli airstrikes in Iran hit key regime targets, including Evin prison in Tehran and roads near the Fordo nuclear facility.

Despite the exchange of fire, both sides signaled an openness to de-escalation. Iran said it was not seeking war but would respond to aggression. Trump also suggested regime change could be an option, prompting pushback from the White House which said he was merely “raising a question.”

The situation remains fluid. While Trump claims a ceasefire is imminent, Iranian state TV emphasized that attacks from Israel continued even as Trump made the announcement. International observers, including Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, have condemned U.S. and Israeli strikes as “unprovoked.”

More than 24 people in Israel and 974 in Iran have reportedly died since the conflict erupted, with thousands more injured. The U.S. has begun evacuating American citizens from Israel amid fears of further escalation.
