Federal Minister for Information, Ataullah Tarar, has welcomed the Anti-Terrorism Court’s verdict in the May 9 cases, stating that it is now as clear as daylight that the mastermind behind the violent events is behind bars.
Speaking to the media following the verdict, Tarar emphasized that today marks a victory for the rule of law and the implementation of legal provisions. He pointed out that undeniable evidence was presented in court regarding the attacks that occurred on May 9. According to him, those involved not only damaged defense installations and public property but also disrespected memorials of national martyrs.
Tarar condemned the violence, stating that the attackers injured law enforcement officers, engaged in arson, and vandalized state institutions. He noted that the legal proceedings had taken considerable time but were conducted fairly, with all necessary evidence submitted before the court.
Highlighting incidents such as the attack on defense offices in Faisalabad and the looting at Jinnah House in Lahore, Tarar asserted that the verdict affirms the strength of the justice system in Pakistan. “Those who thought they were above the law have been proven wrong today,” he said. “These sentences will serve as a deterrent to anyone considering such treachery in the future.”
The minister stressed that all evidence, including video footage, confirms the involvement of specific individuals and their orchestrated attempts to destabilize the state. He added that these acts were part of a broader conspiracy to damage national integrity, which was ultimately thwarted by the justice system.
“These punishments were awarded nder the law, following due process and fair trial standards,” Tarar concluded. “This is a day of justice and accountability, and we welcome the court’s decision.”
