Karachi — Around 10 to 15 armed robbers raided a private housing society home in Karachi and killed a frail 70-year-old man after a night-long ordeal, sources say.
According to details, the incident took place between Friday and Saturday night in Ban Qasim area, house no. B-58, Gulshan Falaknaz on the National Highway, Gulshan-Hadid Phase-2 Extension. The robbers burst into the house in the small hours of the morning and subjected the elderly man to severe violence; he was first critically wounded and then shifted to a private hospital. He succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
The victim has been identified as Muhammad Javed. His son, Abdul Rauf, told media that at about 3:45 a.m., some 10–15 armed men entered their home, took everyone hostage, blindfolded them, and tortured them. They stayed in the house for over two hours, looting and destroying property. Rauf said the robbers struck his father over the nose with an iron rod, causing serious injury that later proved fatal.
He also said the intruders assaulted his wife and mother, then fled with almost everything of value — gold jewellery, cash, mobile phones, wristwatches, the builder’s plot file, and other precious belongings. Even the CCTV system’s DVR and batteries were taken.
Ban Qasim SHO Inspector Faisal Rafiq confirmed that six employees of the housing society have been detained, including security guards and administrative staff. The deceased’s son claims there was an ongoing dispute with the housing society management. Legal proceedings are expected after the burial.
The deceased, Rao Javed Ali Khan, was formerly Deputy Manager SMD at Pakistan Steel. His funeral was held on Saturday after Zuhr prayers at the nearby Jamia Mosque, and he was buried in the local graveyard.
Reportedly, since 1 January this year, 63 civilians have been killed in various robberies across Karachi. Police maintain that they are tracking all such incidents.
