A new system designed to deliver tiny capsules containing anti-inflammatory proteins to specific parts of the brain may help combat Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.

‎According to the latest research published in the journal Biomaterials, Astrocapsules are tiny capsules made from a safe gel that contains brain cells called astrocytes.

‎The new study revealed that age-related inflammation, which is linked to diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s, needs to be treated at specific sites with anti-inflammatory therapy.

‎The research further stated that when astrocyte capsules carrying the anti-inflammatory protein IL-1Ra are delivered, they significantly reduce inflammation in the brain.
