Strict Measures Implemented in Lahore to Combat Smog

The Punjab government has intensified efforts to curb smog in Lahore, announcing a series of strict measures to protect citizens from hazardous air pollution. The decision comes as the city once again tops the list of the world’s most polluted cities, with air quality reaching dangerous levels in several areas.

According to officials, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed all relevant departments to ensure full enforcement of anti-smog policies. Industrial units and brick kilns operating without emission control systems will face immediate closure, while heavy fines are being imposed on violators. Special teams have been deployed across the provincial capital to monitor compliance and take swift action against sources of pollution.

Authorities have also announced restrictions on vehicle emissions, urging citizens to use public transport and carpooling options. Meanwhile, schools and offices are being advised to adopt hybrid or online systems during days of severe smog. The Environment Department has intensified inspections, and sprinkling of water on major roads is being carried out to reduce dust levels.

Health experts are warning residents to wear masks and limit outdoor activities, especially for children and the elderly, as air quality continues to deteriorate. The government has assured that long-term measures, including green urban projects and the promotion of electric vehicles, are being prioritized to address the recurring smog crisis in Lahore.
