Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has warned that his government will not support ongoing talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) if key provincial finance officials are not allowed to meet PTI founder Imran Khan.
Speaking to the media after meeting Khan at Adiala Jail, Gandapur said he came with a message from the former prime minister. “Imran Khan’s fight is not for personal gain — it’s a struggle for constitutional supremacy and democratic rights in Pakistan,” he said.
The chief minister emphasized the importance of the meeting with Khan for upcoming budget decisions. “Without his vision and input, we cannot proceed effectively. If this restriction continues, we will not be part of any dialogue with the IMF,” he stated.
He claimed that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is the only province that fulfilled all IMF targets and now enjoys a budget surplus. He highlighted social welfare achievements such as a Rs. 36 billion health insurance program, solar energy systems for households, and organ transplant services.
“We inherited a financially strained province, but today, we’re providing direct relief to the public,” Gandapur noted.
On allegations of a Rs. 40 billion corruption scandal, Gandapur denied involvement and directed accountability toward the previous administration. “This case pertains to the time of the former chief minister and finance minister. We’ve already recovered Rs. 20 billion and will pursue the rest,” he said.
He also called for rule of law and human rights protections for political workers, many of whom he said are behind bars. He emphasized that PTI’s protest movement will remain peaceful but firm in its demands.
